Volunteers are the heart of any not-for-profit organization. The generous gift of your time and skills play a vital role in helping us achieve our mission of providing a safe and adequate blood supply to area patients. Browse this page to familiarize yourself with the multiple opportunities to volunteer at Central Blood Bank.
Blood Donor
Central Blood Bank's lifesaving mission depends on volunteer blood donors. We require 725 donors a day to support local health care needs. Volunteer blood donors can have a significant impact on the lives of area patients by donating quarterly. A whole blood donor who donates quarterly can save up to 12 lives a year. For more information regarding this type of volunteer opportunity, visit our
Donating Blood page.
Donor Appreciation Representative
Central Blood Bank has 28 community donor centers and more than 200 community mobile blood drives each month. Due to the large number of daily collection events, there is a great need for volunteers in this area.
After a donor completes the donation process, a Donor Appreciation Representative observes the donor to ensure they are feeling fine. The Donor Appreciation Representative also serves refreshments, educates donors on the need for blood, and is available to answer questions. Most importantly, our Donor Appreciation Representative thanks the donor for helping local patients in need of transfusions. This is our last opportunity to ensure a positive experience for the donor, which makes this volunteer opportunity extremely important.
Office Assistant
For those who prefer to volunteer in an office environment, our administrative staff would appreciate your assistance. There is always filing, mailing, data entry projects, typing, and phone work that can be done by interested volunteers who prefer an office environment.
Central Blood Bank volunteers play a very important role in helping us brighten the lives of local patients. In return, we promise that your volunteer experience will be meaningful, memorable and rewarding.
If you are interested in becoming a Central Blood Bank volunteer, please contact our Administrative Services Coordinator at 412-209-7130 or complete the
