THE NEED IS NOW.
Whatever your blood type, hospitals rely on your donation to perform lifesaving surgeries. Your generosity will help maintain an adequate supply of blood, as well as ensure that surgeries can be performed as needed.
Those donors with type O negative, A negative and B negative are especially encouraged to give when they can. Rh negative blood types can be transfused to Rh positive and negative patients. Type O negative is called the universal blood type because it can be transfused to any patient who needs blood regardless of their own blood type. Type O negative blood is often used in emergency situations when there isn’t time to determine a patient’s blood type, so donors with type O negative blood are encouraged to give regularly.
