| Pittsburgh, PA (12/17/2009) - Family and friends of Tony Chiaramonte, in conjunction with Central Blood Bank, have announced a blood drive in his memory. The drive is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, in the Social Hall of St. Richard Catholic Church, on Dickey Road in Gibsonia, Pa., from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Chiaramonte passed away on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, days after undergoing a double bypass and open heart surgery for a heart valve replacement. Complications caused Chiaramonte to require several more surgeries, during which he received more than 30 units of blood. Raised in the North Hills and a resident of Richland Township for nearly 40 years, Chiaramonte was devoted to his wife, Joan, and his eight children. Chiaramonte was a distributor for the Pittsburgh Press and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for many years and was owner of the Land of Sweets Bakery and Richland Soft Serve Ice Cream Shop. Along with his wife, he was a realtor for Coldwell Banker®. "Throughout the holiday season, people often forget the importance of the gift of a blood donation," says Christine Paiano, Business Development Representative at Central Blood Bank. "Tony's family encourages the community to donate blood in his honor." The blood drive in Chiaramonte's memory will help replenish the supply of Central Blood Bank and will impact the lives of many people who never go the chance to meet Chiaramonte or hear his story. If you are interested in donating, call Lynn at 724-502-6005 or call Central Blood Bank at 1-866-366-6771 at any time.
