Central Blood Bank and New Community Church Host Blood Drive for Compassion Weekend

Pittsburgh, PA (10/6/2009)  -

Compassion Weekend encourages people to serve their neighbors in need. Right now, in Pittsburgh's hospitals, there are patients - neighbors, families, friends - who require lifesaving blood transfusions as part of their treatment. With the concept of “love thy neighbor,“ and the realization that help from the community is needed to maintain the regional blood supply, in mind, New Community Church (NCC), along with Central Blood Bank, is holding a three-day blood drive over the weekend of Oct. 9, 2009.

Each day, the drives will be held at NCC, located at 3100 Wexford Road in Wexford, Pa. Hours vary: Friday, Oct. 9, the drive is from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 10, drive hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 11, you can donate between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. For updated times, check the Central Blood Bank Web site at www.centralbloodbank.org.

New Community Church encourages people from all denominations to come out and donate blood to help Central Blood Bank, which supplies more than 40 of the Pittsburgh region's hospitals.

During Compassion Weekend, congregation members of NCC will be engaged in several projects and acts of service throughout the city of Pittsburgh and surrounding communities. The bulk of NCC's projects will be held on Saturday, October 10, but other options are available.

To schedule your appointment to donate, call Central Blood Bank at 1-866-366-6771. Or visit www.centralbloodbank.org to schedule an appointment online.
